Don’t Get What Bait & Switch Is? Then You Can’t Complain about Headlines You Don’t Understand
Came a troll yesterday:
“Your headlines have no purpose. They don’t match your articles. Like this one: You control information when you control this. But the email talked about Napoleon’s son-in-law, it never saidwhat “this” was. Your like baiting and switching up on us, man.”
So much to unpack.
One, the purpose of a headline is to get the reader to click to the article. That’s all.
Two, Mr. Troll obviously doesn’t understand bait and switch…
I don’t believe the headline promised a great offer or discount, only for the content to offer you a more expensive product.
Three, he obviously didn’t read the email closely, or he’d have understood what “this” was…
If you’re a true ad intentionist, smashbait, you’ll have gotten what “this” is…
To be honest, it’s okay if you didn’t exactly get what “this” is… it wasn’t blatant but it wasn’t hidden, either.
What’ll make you a true ad intentionist is to go back to that email and think about it critically again…
Plus, if you’ve got Ad Intentions, you’ll definitely get the lowdown on it.
But if you don’t… and you whine about headlines and article content not matching…
Then I’m probably not the resource for you about copywriting, biz, marketing, selling, and boosting your quality of life…
Oh… one last thing:
A true ad intentionist knows that headline was a match. And despite my saying that the goal of each headline is to get the reader to click…
(Even though it is)
It’s even better when it gets readers to click AND it’s relevant to the content.
While I go cancel Mr. Troll’s membership on this email list…

P.S. I don’t know how relations are calculated in Mr. Troll’s family, but the son of your sister is not your son-in-law…
